  • Prescription Drug Addiction - Percoset Addiction

    Percoset Addiction

Percoset is a semi synthetic opiate, derived from the poppy plant. It is a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen. The use of opiates can be traced back to at least 4000 B.C. (Schukit 2006). How strong the drug is depends on the amount taken. Usually people with a higher tolerance to the drug will need to take more in order to feel the same effects as someone without a tolerance for Percoset. Tolerance is usually one of the first signs of Percoset addiction. People aged 18-25 are the most likely to abuse Percoset although, Percoset addiction affects people in all age groups.

Pain management is one reason people are prescribed Percoset. After prolonged use dependence can develop. It is sometimes more difficult to identify signs of addiction in people taking medication for pain management than in people taking Percoset for recreational purposes. Signs of Percoset addiction include change of behavior, making the drug a top priority, feeling physically ill in the absence of the drug. Sometimes people engage in illegal or dangerous behavior to get the drug. These behaviors include forging prescriptions, buying the drug illegally online attempting to get Percoset by doctor shopping, stealing out of medicine cabinets, buying medicine off of other patients, to describe a few efforts. People may also endanger themselves or others by driving under the influence of Percoset. Percoset addiction is potentially fatal and the abuser’s physical and mental health can worsen over time. One of the best ways to help the person is to place them in a residential treatment facility.

Percoset is often prescribed to patients with mild to medium levels of pain but Percoset should be taken very seriously when it comes to potential for addiction.

The mechanism of Percoset addiction is complex, please seek expert guidance before attempting to stop any serious drug addiction. If you or someone you love has a problem with Percoset addiction please give us a call at 877-777-1963, we're here to help.
