Prescription Drug Treatment

Prescription drug treatment is often misunderstood. Many different prescription drugs are abused today. Prescription drugs include anti-anxiety medications from the benzodiazepine family: Valium, Ativan, Serenid-d, Librium, Nobrium, Xanax, Klonopin, Rivotril, Bromazepam, Lexotan, Clobazam, Frisium, Clorazepate, Tranxene, Temazepam, Normison, Nitrazepam, Mogadon, Flunitrazepam, Rohypnol, Flurazepam, Dalmane, Loprazolam, Dormonoct. Many pain medications fall into the opiod family: Examples of prescription opioids include morphine (Kadian, Avinza), codeine, oxycodone (e.g., OxyContin, Percodan, Percocet), hydrocodone (Lortab, Lorcet, Vicodin), propoxyphene (Darvon), fentanyl (Duragesic), and hydromorphone (Dilaudid). Stimulants, including dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine and Adderall) and methylphenidate (Ritalin and Concerta), are used primarily to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, attention deficit disorder, and narcolepsy.

Years of research have shown that addiction to any drug, illicit or prescribed can be treated effectively. However, no single type of treatment is appropriate for all individuals with addictions. At Wonderland we individualize treatment based on the client’s level of substance dependency, other addictive behaviors, psychiatric issues, family history, work history and health. To be successful, treatment must take into account the type of drug used as well as the overall assessment of the client. Treatment may incorporate several behavioral and pharmacological components, as well as detoxification. Because drug abuse is a chronic and relapsing disease, at Wonderland we provide residential, outpatient and companion services to increase the effectiveness of treatment. Our treatment philosophy focuses on “integration vs. isolation”. Our treatment program is effective when a client can safely return to their lives.

Our treatment plans center on integration not isolation. We believe recovery success depends on successfully returning to normal life. Being isolated away from your work, family and “healthy” friends is not recovery. Recovery is when a person can return to normal life comfortably without abusing drugs and alcohol.
